Ampleforth Children's Choir is a 60-strong choir which meets every Saturday morning during term time. It is open to all primary school children. Those in Reception and Year 1 are welcome to join our First Steps group, space permitting. Children in years 2-3 are the younger section of the "big" choir, with those in years 4-6 forming the older section.
Mission Statement
The purpose of the choir is to offer children in the Ampleforth area the opportunity to develop a love of singing. The staff, members of the Ampleforth College music department and the North Yorkshire Music Services, introduce the children to a range of styles - secular, sacred, popular, folk; help is also given with vocal production and reading skills. Taster days are arranged whereby primary school teachers who wish to develop their own skills, seek fresh ideas and share their own expertise, are invited to observe rehearsals and discuss all aspects of children's singing. Regular performances to stimulate the children's interest are a feature of the project.
